Requirements and Tips

Your job is to publish at least one piece of writing every fortnight (two weeks).  Remember to thoroughly edit your work, checking for spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Read your work carefully, ensuring that it all makes sense. Have you used a thesaurus to help you make interesting language choices?

Check the ‘Writing Topics’ page for a list of ideas you might like to choose from.  Try to write pieces of different styles and genres each fortnight.  You might write a recount, then a narrative (imaginative story), a letter, a poem – the options are limitless!

You also need to comment on at least two other pieces of writing your classmates have published.  Remember to make your comments constructive.  This means that you should say something you liked about the writing, as well as something you think the writer could do better.  Simply writing, ‘This is cool’ is not particularly constructive, as it does not give the writer feedback they can use to improve their work next time.

An example of a constructive comment might be something like:

“What a well detailed recount! Your use of paragraphs is great and I really liked how the recount was from your perspective, not just a list of what you did.  One thing you really need to watch is your use of capital letters. Every sentence should start with one – can you spot the ones that don’t?”

Happy writing!
